As one of the primary settlement agencies within Waterloo Region, the YMCA acts as a 'first stop' for newcomers, supporting their continual process of settlement through a comprehensive client centred approach.

A settlement worker is your first connection for information and support. Through a settlement needs assessment, you and your settlement worker can identify what services and information you need most.

We dedicate our knowledge and energy to make new Canadians welcome in our communities by helping to:

  • navigate and learn about your new community

  • provide up-to-date information and resources

  • assist you in communicating with employers, landlords, social and government services, legal services and more

  • assist you with filling out forms

  • provide support and link you with specialized services to help with personal problem or critical situation
For your convenience and easy access, services are available in our YMCA main offices, elementary, secondary and ESL schools, libraries and community centres.

Our settlement services are available in both official languages, English and French. Whenever possible you may be served in your first language through our multilingual staff.

We can help by connecting you to an interpreter who will help you communicate with other agencies. You are also welcome to bring your own interpreter.

Our translation services are limited to documents related to employment, health, education, and legal matters that are necessary for immediate settlement. We do not offer certified translations.
